It is never too early to reserve your spot in line for the next Sojourner puppy to add to your family!  To get on our waiting list you must fill out a puppy application and place a $500 nonrefundable deposit. Once you are on our waiting list we will keep you informed of upcoming litters and what we are expecting from each litter.  However, if you have requirements such as color or gender, your wait may be longer as we can make no guarantees as we are limited to what mother nature will deliver! 


Deposits are $500 USD and are nonrefundable.  If your life circumstances change, we can apply your deposit to any litter within 18 months of your initial deposit.  The $500 USD will be applied to the final purchase price of your puppy.  Your deposit can be made directly on our website, we use Square to process all of our payments.

Picking Your Puppy

We use your criteria that you provide to help identify the puppy that will be the best fit for you and your family.  If you are not firm on gender or color, please make sure to indicate that on your application. After spending so much time with these puppies we develop a sense of who they are and will present to you choices that best meet your criteria.  While we absolutely understand that gender and color can be very important in the puppy choosing process it can't be overstated that personality and characteristics (such as coat) are also vital to matching you with the puppy that will help you find your happily ever after!  

Puppy priority will be given in the order which we receive your deposit. First deposit will get first pick and so on. When it is your turn to pick your puppy if the remaining puppies do not meet your criteria you may choose to move your deposit to our next available litter. You will be allowed to take the next available position in the choosing line! 


At the beginning stages of a puppies life they are very vulnerable to illness, and this can be fatal to them.  For this reason we are very strict about not allowing visitors into puppy areas except on pick up days.  On pickup day we ask:

  • You bring no other pets for pick up day

  • You refrain from visiting dog parks

  • You take off your shoes before entering our home

We understand you are very interested in the environment in which your puppy is being raised.....we would be too!! In order to both provide you with that information, as well as safeguard the health of our puppies, we will provide plenty of video and pictures during their first eight weeks of life!  The health of our puppies cannot be compromised for any reason.  We hope you understand.


Being located in Northern Kentucky, allows us the advantage of being within driving distance for many of our potential families. If you should be outside of what is a reasonable driving distance we will be happy to arrange to have your puppy fly home to you. We will either meet you at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport or we will hand deliver our puppies directly to you.  If we hand deliver the puppies to you, they will ride in the cabin with a puppy nanny who will deliver the puppy to you at the destination airport.  We will not ship our puppies as cargo, there are too many tragic stories for we to risk the lives of one of our little ones. Additional fees will apply. 

Health Guarantee

Sojourner Kennels guarantees for two years against hip dysplasia or any hereditary disease.  If your dog develops a hereditary disease that makes them unsuitable as a pet or places them in need of extended veterinary care, please contact us immediately. We take the health of our animals very seriously and have done our best to ensure that we are breeding dogs free from genetic diseases, however nature is such that it is impossible to ever be 100% certain that such issues will not arise. If they do we will be here to support you and your puppy to make the best decision moving forward. 

We will require a note from a board certified veterinarian that this is a hereditary issue and not due to other factors such as, but not limited to, nutrition, improper exercise, or injury.  Once it is determined that the cause of the issue is indeed genetic it will be up to you if you would like to keep the puppy or we will take the puppy back and provide you with another puppy from a future litter. 

Please note that parasites are not covered in a health guarantee.  We do everything we can to ensure that puppies go home parasite free.  However, mothers are highly susceptible to parasites after birth and it is possible that those parasites could be passed on to the pups.  Please make sure that you take you puppy to the vet within 3 days of being home and have them check for parasites. 

Final Payment

Final payment can be made through our website, credit/debit card at pickup (we use Square for card processing) or cash at pickup. Payments using a card will also include a 3% transaction fee - which is what we are being charged for the transaction.  If your puppy is being shipped, final payment will also include the shipping charges for your puppy and we will send you a custom invoice which must be paid before shipment.


Deposits are nonrefundable so please only place a deposit if you are certain you will be ready for a new puppy in the next 18 months! We will be here to support you and your puppy in every way after they have gone home. Although we absolutely understand life happens, should circumstances arise that will keep you from being able to care for your puppy after going home we will be happy to receive your puppy back into our care but we will not issue a refund. After the puppy has left our care, the new family has 3 days to take the puppy in to see a vet for a physical examination. If the puppy were to be found in ill health with any life threatening disease, the cause of which we as breeders were to blame, only then can the puppy be returned for a full refund. Shipping fees, if any, would not be refunded. 


Occasionally, circumstances change or a puppy does not work out in his or her new home for various reasons. In these or other similar situations we are more than happy to take the puppy or adult dog back until a new home can be found. We do not offer refunds past the 3 day mark after the puppy has gone to their new home and exchanges can only be made within our 2-year guarantee window if your puppy was found to have a genetic defect.

Breeding Rights

Our dogs are sold on a strict spay/neuter contract - and must be completed by 18 months.  Legal stuff about ramifications will be in the contract.  Full breeding rights will be considered on a case by case basis for small breeding programs.
